CarGurus probes cyberattack, ShinyHunters claims theft of 1.7M records in data breach

Online marketplace CarGurus has confirmed it’s investigating a cybersecurity incident after reports surfaced that a large batch of personal data may have been compromised.
What happened: Security researcher Troy Hunt flagged data attributed to the hacking group ShinyHunters, which claims it accessed roughly 1.7 million records, including names, physical addresses, and more than 12 million email addresses.
CarGurus says it secured the affected environment and brought in an independent cybersecurity firm to investigate.
“At this time, there are no indications that dealer data feeds, APIs, or core systems used by our dealer partners have been compromised. We remain fully operational, and our services continue without interruption,” a spokesperson for CarGurus told CDG News.

Dealers face softer new-car demand, rising prices in February sales forecast — J.D. Power

New-vehicle sales are expected to look a little better in February than in January, but still softer than a year ago, according to the latest forecast from J.D. Power
By the numbers: Retail new-vehicle sales are expected to reach 931,400 units in February, a 4.6% decrease from a year ago.
EVs are expected to account for just 6.6% of retail sales, down 1.8% from a year ago.
Meanwhile, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) are expected to account for 13.5% of new-vehicle retail sales, up 0.1%.
What they’re saying: “As in January, performance is being shaped by depressed electric vehicle (EV) retail demand… while elevated transaction prices continue to weigh on volumes through ongoing affordability pressure,” said Thomas King, president of OEM solutions at JD Power.

Supreme Court upends tariffs, but key auto duties still intact

The Supreme Court has struck down many of President Trump’s sweeping “reciprocal” tariffs in a 6–3 decision, ruling that the administration overstepped its authority under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
The decision potentially puts roughly $130 billion in collected tariffs into question, with businesses now eyeing possible refunds.
But the administration isn’t backing down. Within days of the ruling, the President signaled plans to replace the voided tariffs with a broad 10% levy on imports, later suggesting that rate could climb to 15%.
