Stellantis $STLA ( ▼ 1.27% ) is discontinuing all its plug-in hybrid vehicles in the U.S., including the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, touted as the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America.

The details: The 2025 model year marks the end of the plug-in Wrangler’s sales in North America and other Stellantis PHEVs, as the company continues to recalibrate its electrification strategy, reports The Drive.

  • In addition to the Wrangler PHEV, the phase-out includes the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV.

  • News of the models being discontinued first surfaced after The Drive got a tip that the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xes were no longer available on the respective “Build and Price” tools on Jeep’s website.

What they’re saying: “Stellantis continually evaluates its product strategy to meet evolving customer needs and regulatory requirements,” a Stellantis spokesperson told The Drive.

Why it matters: For Jeep and Chrysler dealers, losing high-profile PHEVs like Wrangler 4xe, Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Pacifica PHEV means fewer electrified options to offer payment- and fuel-conscious shoppers, especially those looking for incentives or HOV perks. Stores will need to pivot quickly to new hybrid, range-extended, and traditional ICE offerings while managing trade-ins, residual values, and service expectations for existing 4xe and PHEV customers.

Between the lines: The company’s confirmation that it’s ending production of its 4xe and PHEV models in the U.S. marks another major turning point in its powertrain strategy, underscoring Stellantis’ aggressive push to reignite its traditional performance appeal with car buyers.

  • In addition to discontinuing its PHEVs, Stellantis has also been scaling back on its all-electric models, finally pulling the plug on plans to produce an all-electric Ram, with the Chrysler crossover EV likely dead as well.

  • Even promos for the eighth-generation Dodge Challenger, which includes an EV model once touted as the future of the brand, have shifted, with the gas-powered model now getting the biggest push.

  • Last year’s return of the popular Hemi V-8 engine in the Ram signals one of Stellantis’ biggest plays to return to its performance roots, a move further fueled by the “resurrection” of the TRX.

“With customer demand shifting, Stellantis will phase out plug in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America beginning with the 2026 model year, and focus on more competitive electrified solutions, including hybrid and range extended vehicles where they best meet customer needs,” said the Stellantis spokesperson (via The Drive).

Bottom line: Stellantis is clearly betting that traditional hybrids, range-extenders, and good old-fashioned performance will resonate more than plug-ins (at least for now). Dealers that realign inventory, refresh their sales messaging around fuel economy and power (rather than plugs), and lean into service and used opportunities on outgoing 4xe and PHEV models will be best positioned as the brand’s powertrain mix shifts yet again.
