Stellantis $STLA ( ▲ 3.95% ) is bringing back the Ram TRX, a V-8-powered Ram 1500 pickup truck from the company’s newly relaunched SRT Performance Division.

The details: The automaker said Thursday that the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX will be available late in 2026 for $99,995 (not including a $2,595 destination fee).

  • The TRX is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter “Hellcat” Hemi gas engine capable of 777 horsepower and 680 foot-pounds of torque.

  • The pickup truck can also go from  0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 118 mph.

  • And for the first time, the TRX features Hands-Free Active Drive Assist (L2+) as standard, making Ram “the only truck manufacturer to offer hands-free capability on a high-performance off-road gas pickup,” according to Stellantis.

Flashback: The TRX was first produced for the 2021-2024 model years before being canceled as the company killed V-8 engines, and pivoted to an EV lineup (which the automaker eventually walked-back).

  • Despite modest sales in the past, the TRX is viewed as a “halo” model for the brand that brings attention to Ram overall.

Why it matters: With rollbacks in U.S. emissions standards, Stellantis can revive gas-guzzling V-8s without facing steep penalties or compliance costs.

  • So, the automaker is chomping at the bit to fill market gaps by appealing to buyers who still prefer gas-powered performance, while the industry transitions (now more slowly) to electrified vehicles.

  • This could energize dealers and attract buyers in a segment where Ram has strength, while undercutting the Ford Raptor R by about $10K–$11K.

What they’re saying: “We started 2025 with a simple rallying cry—three words and three letters: The Last Tenth and LFG. Our first moves were clear: revive the legendary HEMI® V-8 and reignite the SRT Performance Division. So, would anyone really bet against TRX making a comeback?” said Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis.

“But bringing back the nameplate isn’t enough. Ram set the bar five years ago with 702 horsepower, and that benchmark has been challenged. SRT doesn’t limbo; we high-jump—and 721 wasn’t going to cut it. 777 horsepower? That’s the mark. And it represents more than power—it signals an awakening and a new path forward.”

Yes but, the TRX is arguably niche and aimed at wealthy buyers. And economic headwinds like elevated interest rates (6.6% average on new car loans per Edmunds), job losses, and inflation could make six-figure payments ($1,000+/month) unappealing for most everyday truck users. Critics are also calling the truck impractical for real work, and don't expect it to be a volume seller.

Between the lines: This announcement fits squarely into Stellantis' multi-billion-dollar recommitment to North America.

  • Under Kuniskis, Ram revealed last June that it would be making 25 announcements in 18 months which would emphasize giving customers "the trucks they want.”

  • On top of that, CEO Antonio Filosa signaled that Ram will play a major role in the struggling automaker's turnaround effort, thanks to the brand's profit margins, brand equity and global footprint.

Looking ahead: Stellantis is now nearly "100% truck" through Jeep and Ram. And that playbook (which has been driving automaker profits for years), has an expiration date. But according to Filosa, Ram plans to grow sales in the next couple years by adding its first SUV, and Jeep is poised to introduce a plug-less hybrid compact Jeep Cherokee for around $37,000.
