Audi (Volkswagen Group of America) filed a recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on April 24 covering 7,425 model-year 2025 Q5, Q5 Sportback, SQ5, and SQ5 Sportback vehicles due to a front seat belt issue.
The issue: According to the NHTSA filing, if the seat belt pretensioner fires in a crash, the belt may not hold proper tension, potentially leaving passengers inadequately restrained.
As it stands, there are no warning signs tied to the issue, and Audi says no crashes, injuries, or claims have been reported.
Some background: The cause was traced to a faulty part at the supplier level that can prevent the seat belt from locking properly after the pretensioner fires. The supplier corrected the issue in February 2026.
Dealers will replace the front seat belts at no charge.
No reimbursement plan is being offered since all affected vehicles are still under warranty.
Dealer notifications go out May 1, with VINs searchable the same day. Owner letters will follow by June 23, per the filing.
