Nissan is recalling over 192,000 vehicles over fuel pump issues and faulty electric batteries

Nissan is recalling about 173,000 vehicles because their engines could suddenly stall while driving, which obviously increases crash risk. The problem is a fuel tank temperature sensor with poorly routed wiring that can get damaged and cause the fuel pump to short-circuit, according to the NHTSA. If the fuel pump fuse blows, the engine can cut out mid-drive.
And additional recall documents show that lithium-ion batteries in 2021 and 2022 Leaf hatchback models may contain excessive lithium deposits within their cells—a defect that increases electrical resistance and can cause charge fluctuations. If present, that resistance can lead to rapid heating during Level 3 fast charging, potentially triggering a battery fire. The issue impacts both the standard 40.0-kWh pack and the larger 62.0-kWh option.

- Dealer Action: Dealers will inspect the vehicle for fuel pump-related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), and either reroute the fuel tank temperature (FTT) harness to the correct position, or replace the fuel pump assembly that has the FTT harness correctly routed
