On April 8, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) logged a recall filed by Toyota covering 9,139 Lexus vehicles across three models, including the 2022 IS, 2015-2022 RC, and 2016-2020 GS, over a fuel pump defect that could cause a vehicle stall.

The issue: According to the NHTSA, a resin impeller inside the low-pressure fuel pump can degrade under certain operating conditions, potentially causing the pump to stop working altogether.

  • When that happens, drivers may see warning lights, experience difficulty starting the vehicle, or face a stall, the last of which carries an elevated crash risk at highway speeds.

The fix: Dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly with an improved unit at no charge. No "do not drive" advisory is in place.

  • Dealer notifications went out April 8. Owner letters are expected between May 25 and June 8.

For Lexus dealers: The population spans three nameplates and nearly a decade of production dates, so service teams should expect a steady flow of appointments once owner letters land next month.
