Driving the news: Stellantis $STLA ( ▲ 3.21% ) is recalling certain Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs in two separate campaigns for improperly secured exterior trim pieces that can detach and create road hazards, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The details: The recalls affect recent model year vehicles built during specific production windows when trim installation or supplier processes failed quality standards.
Recall 25V593 (163,735 vehicles): Issued on September 11, this notice covers 2022-2025 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models where driver and passenger door daylight opening (DLO) trim may not have been properly secured at the assembly plant and can detach.
Recall 25V642 (123,396 vehicles): This recall, formalized on September 25, covers 2022-2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models where quarter window trim may detach due to missing clear primer application at the supplier level.
The remedy: For the door trim recall (25V593), dealers will inspect and replace trim as necessary at no charge, with owner notification letters mailed September 25, 2025.
For the quarter window trim recall (25V642), the repair is still under development.
Interim notification letters warning owners of the safety risk will be mailed November 14, with additional letters sent once the final fix is ready.
Big picture: Recall work fills service bays with guaranteed manufacturer-reimbursed labor, but rates sometimes fall below what dealership departments could be earning on the retail side.
However, that's changing fast. New Jersey just mandated manufacturers reimburse dealers at retail rates for warranty and recall work, joining New York and Illinois.
In Illinois, the law has delivered an additional $209 million in compensation to 69,100 affected service department workers across the state’s dealership network.
