Stellantis has unveiled its redesigned Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, hoping to reverse an ongoing sales slump and recoup lost profits.

Driving the news: The heavy-duty models, featuring refreshed designs and a powerful new diesel engine, are set to hit U.S. dealerships in Q1 2025, starting at $47,560 — about $2,300 more than current models.

  • The updated trucks boast a 6.7-liter turbo diesel engine with 430 horsepower and 1,075 foot-pounds of torque. A 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine with 405 horsepower and 429 foot-pounds of torque is also available.

  • The automaker also has a mid-size truck expected to launch later this year, which could help fill a critical gap in its offerings even as it emphasizes larger vehicles.

Why it matters: pickup trucks are a cornerstone for American brands like Ram, but the company has struggled in recent years. In 2024, Ram’s overall sales dropped 19%, with pickup sales down 16%.

  • Tim Kuniskis, who returned to the company after a months-long retirement, said the heavily delayed rollout of the Ram 1500 was a key reason for falling sales.

  • With their diesel engines and heavy-duty capabilities, the Ram 2500 and 3500 may be key to bringing back buyers who use the vehicles for towing and hauling.

  • Still, Stellantis and Ram will face stiff competition from Ford and Chevrolet, which continue to perform strongly in the pickup segment.

  • The redesigns may also prove to be a test of whether Kuniskis’ resumed leadership is enough to turn things around for the brand.
