Driving the news: Volvo is recalling 413,151 vehicles from model years 2021-2025 due to rearview cameras failing to display at the start of backing events, violating federal rear visibility standards.

The details: The recall covers 12 models equipped with Google-built-in infotainment systems:

  • 2022-2025 XC60 (154,262 units)

  • 2023-2025 XC90 (116,184 units)

  • 2021-2025 XC40 (86,995 units)

  • 2023-2025 S60 (25,952 units)

  • 2022-2024 C40 (12,234 units)

  • 2023-2025 V60CC (6,726 units)

  • 2022-2025 S90 (5,207 units)

  • 2022-2025 V90CC (2,563 units)

  • 2023-2025 V60 (1,621 units)

  • 2025 EX40 (1,398 units)

  • 2025 EC40 (8 units)

  • 2022 V90 (1 unit)

The reason: The issue is related to camera image rendering failures and software system performance issues.

  • When the camera doesn't work, the center display shows "Camera is temporarily not available."

  • Park assist, rear automatic braking, and cross traffic alert still function and will automatically stop the vehicle if an obstacle is detected.

  • Volvo estimates 100% of affected vehicles have the defect.

The remedy: Volvo is planning a software release by the end of Q1 2026. Dealers will perform over-the-air or in-shop software upgrades at no charge and Volvo will reimburse customers who already paid for repairs. Owner notifications go out by February 16, 2026, and drivers can check VINs here.
