The 2026 Ramcharger: Stellantis hedges bets on 'Goldilocks' pickup

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis says the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) is a "secret weapon." (2 min. read)

Ram is counting on its new range-extended Ramcharger to drive the brand through one of its toughest challenges to date—proving it can win over both EV-curious buyers and die-hard gas truck loyalists.

First things first: Launching in late 2025—the 2026 Ramcharger—which replaces the all-electric 1500 REV as the brand’s lead into electrification—is a key part of the company’s strategy to navigate the uncertainty of the market, with a vehicle that pairs the efficiency and tech appeal of an EV with the functionality of traditional gas-combustion truck.

  • The Ramcharger extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) features a 92 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, paired with an on-board 130 kW generator, which gives the pickup 690 miles of range.

  • On pure electric power, the new pickup truck has a range of 145 miles, with the gas engine being activated once the electric power is depleted.

  • The Ramcharger includes 647 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of force, with a towing capacity of up to 14,000 lbs and capable of going from 0 - 60 mph in approximately 4.5 seconds.

Between the lines: The most critical numbers for Ram, however, lie in the potential profit margin and market share the Ramcharger can garner in both the EV and ICE sectors, as the brand looks to build on some of its momentum from late last year.

  • After a steep 24% drop in the first nine months of 2024, Ram sales rebounded in the fall, driven by aggressive incentives that helped cushion the year's overall decline.

  • The brand’s inventory dropped to 107 days in January, down from 128 days in November.

  • But a lot of the pickup’s success will come down to price point (which has yet to be revealed).

What they’re saying: "I think this (the Ramcharger) is really going to be a secret weapon in the industry. It's why we wanted to share it with you as soon as possible. It's not a PowerPoint slide. This thing is real, and it's coming fast," said Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Ram, during a recent media event showcasing the vehicle.

Why it matters: Kuniskis is betting that the Ramcharger is its “Goldilocks” truck—not too electric, not too gas-powered, but just right for a market that still can’t decide what the perfect truck of the future looks like. By blending EV capability with the familiarity of a gas engine, Ram is trying to give every buyer a reason to say “yes.”
