Subaru unveiled its all-new, all-electric 2027 Getaway SUV at the New York International Auto Show as the automaker looks to recharge its sales.
The details: The EV, a shift from Subaru’s more traditional design, is being touted for its range, power, and interior space as an all-wheel-drive family SUV.
The three-row Getaway offers more than 300 miles of range and 420 horsepower, making it the most powerful product in the brand’s lineup to date.
It also has up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity and an estimated 150-kW charging speed, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
Why it matters: The Getaway could help Subaru retailers attract shoppers seeking an electric SUV that still aligns with Subaru’s practical, adventure-minded identity.
Plus, the debut of the all-electric Getaway comes at a critical moment for Subaru as it looks to regain traction in the U.S., as reflected in its March sales results.
The stats: Subaru reported 54,674 vehicle sales in March, down 23.5% from March 2025.
More specifically, Impreza sales fell about 50% for the month after the model dropped its base trim.
Forester sales, meanwhile, were the lone bright spot in March, leading Subaru’s lineup for a third straight month with 20,412 units sold.

What they’re saying: “From showroom to service, our teams are committed to connecting drivers with vehicles known for their longevity, capability, safety, and value,” said Troy Poston, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc.,” per a press statement, with Subaru attributing its March decrease to record-breaking pull-ahead sales in 2025.
Additionally, he added: “With all-new additions like our all-electric family-focused Getaway SUV and adventure-ready Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid coming to retailer locations soon, we are ready to meet customer needs with consistency and care.”
What we’re watching: The Getaway, the fourth EV in Subaru’s electric portfolio, will begin arriving at U.S. dealers in late 2026.
Only then will we see whether the new, family-focused EV helps stabilize sales and reach a wider range of EV shoppers.
