Pricing for the Kia Telluride’s second generation dropped this week with numbers for the new hybrid model expected late in the first quarter.

Driving the news: Updates for the 2027 Telluride more than double trim offerings from its debut and replaces its original V6 engine with a four-cylinder turbo-charged that adds almost 50 pounds more torque.

By the numbers: The base model for a four-wheel drive LX trim starts at $39,190, not including the $1,545 destination fee.

  • Kia also offers S, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, SX-Prestige X-Line and SX-Prestige X-Pro trims. The top prestige trim with all-wheel drive costs $56,790.

  • Although pricier than the first-gen model that debuted in 2019 for the 2020 model year, these prices keep the Telluride cheaper and/or competitive with some of its fellow three-row frenemies, including the Toyota Grand Highlander, Mazda CX-90 and Honda Pilot.

Why it matters: On the surface, raising the starting price of one of Kia’s best-selling nameplates makes sense as tariffs and other production costs pressure automakers. But as wealthier consumers get wealthier, and financially strapped consumers fall behind, dealers might not see the demand they’ve grown accustomed to.

What else? The new Telluride grew in size and offers more head room in the second row and more cargo space behind the third row.

  • Also standard for 2027 are 12.3-inch touch-screen navigation system, Tri-Zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

  • Those springing for the X-Pro trim models snag wider all-terrain tires, a new Ground View monitor, new multi-terrain, all-wheel-drive mode and an elevated 9.1 inches of clearance.

  • This model comes from Kia’s plant West Point, Georgia.

Bottom line: Kia’s latest generation Telluride roars back bigger and more powerful, with a higher price point. The next generation also bolsters the OEM’s hybrid offerings.
