With hybrid demand and interest peaking, Honda just announced its plans to introduce up to 15 Honda and Acura models by 2030 and upscale production in the United States. Honda laid out the initiatives during its business briefing.
Meeting demand: The news from Honda hits as more consumers look at hybrid options. According to CarGurus, demand for hybrids hit its highest mark in the past year, with gas prices above $4.50 per gallon. The hybrid demand was more than double that of EVs.
Honda debuted the Honda Hybrid Sedan and Acura Hybrid SUV prototype, which will go on sale in the next two years, on Thursday.
The brand said it plans to launch models featuring an all-new hybrid system and next-generation platform starting in 2027, as well as large-size hybrid models, in the D-segment or above, in 2029 in North America.
What they’re saying: It’s all part of Honda’s reset to dive into the hybrid sector.
“Honda will reallocate more development and production resources into hybrid models to accelerate the market launch ahead of the original schedule and increase the number of compelling products. We have made steady progress in the development of hybrid vehicle technologies, where Honda has strengths, based on our belief that hybrid models will continue to be the key to addressing environmental challenges.”
