Ford's F-150 pipeline received a much-needed boost this week as Novelis restarted production at its Oswego, New York, facility, Reuters reported.

The details: The plant, which supplies aluminum used in Ford's F-Series truck bodies, had been offline for months following two fires.

  • Supply disruptions tied to the fires prompted Ford to lower its 2025 profit forecast and warn of a potential $2 billion financial impact.

  • The F-Series remains Ford's most important vehicle line due to its high sales volume and operating margins, which have reached as high as 20%.

  • Novelis said it is working closely with customers, including Ford, to restore supply levels.

What they’re saying: "Restarting the Oswego ‌hot mill is an important step forward for our operations and, most importantly, for our customers," said Novelis CEO Steve Fisher.

Why it matters: The restart could help stabilize production of Ford's best-selling vehicle line, easing supply concerns that have weighed on F-Series inventory as dealers continue to rely on the strength of the truck segment amid broader market challenges.

Between the lines: Novelis' restart comes at a critical time as Ford works to recover truck deliveries and protect market share in the highly competitive pickup segment.

  • Ford's overall sales fell 11.3% in the first quarter of 2026, including a 16% decline in F-Series sales, while Ram posted a 20% increase during the same period.

  • The F-Series is a major profit driver for Ford due to its high volume and operating margins, which have reached as high as 20%, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Bottom line: Novelis' production restart removes a key supply-chain obstacle for Ford, enabling its dealers to confidently be able to lean into the truck segment to improve its profits and drive showroom traffic.
