Driving the news: Ford $F ( ▼ 0.72% ) is recalling 1.45 million vehicles for rearview camera issues that can display distorted images or blank screens when in reverse, increasing crash risk, according to federal regulators.
The details: The recall covers multiple Ford and Lincoln models spanning several years, including popular vehicles like the Explorer, Escape, Fusion, and Mustang.
Affected models include: 2015-2016 C-Max, 2015-2016 Escape, 2015 Explorer, 2019 Fiesta, 2015-2019 Flex, 2016 Fusion, 2015 and 2019 Lincoln MKT, 2015 Lincoln MKZ, 2020 Mustang, and 2015-2016 and 2018-2019 Taurus.
Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera free of charge and notification letters start mailing this month.
For context: This is Ford's third major camera recall in recent months, affecting over 3 million vehicles total.
September 4: Ford recalled 1.46 million vehicles (2015-2019 Super Duty trucks, Transit vans, Expeditions, Edges, Rangers, and Mustangs) for faulty backup cameras.
October 10: Ford recalled 291,901 Super Duty trucks (2020-2022 F-250, F-350, F-450) for cameras that don't display properly in certain lighting. Fix: software update, with remedy expected by March 2026.
Big picture: Camera issues have been absolutely hammering Ford. And as more safety features become camera-dependent, quality failures in these systems expose dealers to frustrated customers losing faith in Ford's reliability.
