Production of the Ford F-150 at the Dearborn Truck Plant was halted for nearly a week, marking another output disruption for the popular pickup.
The details: Production stopped Thursday (Sept. 24) because of an unspecified supplier issue, with operations scheduled to resume Tuesday, Sept. 29, according to a memo reviewed by Reuters.
Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant was also affected by the supplier issue, resulting in the cancellation of some worker shifts last week.
Ford increased F-150 production at its Kentucky Truck Plant to help offset the losses.
Why it matters: Any production disruption could tighten F-150 availability for dealers, potentially affecting inventory levels, delivery timelines, and sales opportunities, making Ford’s efforts to offset production losses critical for retailers.

The F-Series remains Ford’s most important vehicle line because of its high sales volume and operating margins, which have reached as high as 20%.
Ford’s vehicle sales were down roughly 10% year over year through August, with F-Series sales down 11%, per Reuters.
Ford’s truck sales fell 11.3% in the first quarter, including a 16% drop for the F-Series, while Ram posted a 20% sales increase during the same period.
Bottom line: Repeated production setbacks are adding pressure to Ford’s F-Series business as sales soften and competition intensifies, underscoring the importance for dealers to maintain a reliable supply of high-demand pickups to keep customers from turning to rival brands.
