Driving the news: Aaron Wilson of Wilson Auto Family has acquired Dutch Miller GMC of El Dorado in Kansas from Chris Miller of Dutch Miller Auto Group, according to sell-side advisors from Performance Brokerage Services.
The details: The transaction marks Wilson Auto Family's first entry into Kansas, expanding from its Oklahoma base where the family business started in 1986.
The store will be renamed Wilson GMC of El Dorado and remain at its current location.
Aaron Wilson took over leadership of Wilson Auto Family from founders Dathan and Teresa Wilson in 2013, growing what started as a single Chevrolet dealership in Stillwater into a multi-brand operation.
Meanwhile, the Dutch Miller Auto Group operates 12 locations across North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia with about 300 employees. The group represents 11 brands including Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, and Hyundai.
Bottom line: Single-store divestitures from established regional groups continue creating expansion opportunities for family operators pushing into adjacent markets. And Wilson appears to be taking the classic approach: start in a home state, build infrastructure and operational discipline, then expand methodically into nearby geographies to replicate what works.
