VinFast has found a niche as it continues working to establish itself in the North American market, this time by positioning itself as an option for used EV buyers in Canada.

The details: The Vietnam-based company, which began delivering its first Canadian VF 8 vehicles in June 2023, recently launched its certified pre-owned program in Canada, with a focus on leveraging the unused portion of the company’s original warranty, per Business Wire.

  • VinFast offers a 10-year or 200,000-km (124,000-mile) vehicle warranty, along with a 10-year, unlimited-kilometer warranty for the high-voltage battery that transfers to the next owner.

  • The company’s CPO vehicles also undergo a 105-point inspection, including battery-health checks, and come with a Carfax history report and 24/7 roadside assistance.

Why it matters: VinFast’s CPO program gives dealers another way to reach cost-conscious EV shoppers, with transferable warranty coverage and battery-health inspections helping address some of the uncertainty buyers may have about purchasing a used electric vehicle.

Between the lines: EVs have gained traction in Canada in 2026, with electric vehicle sales in the first four months of the year up 20.8% compared with the same period in 2025, due in part to higher gas prices, according to CBC.

  • According to Rates.ca, a compact EV in its study required about $448 a year in charging costs, compared with $2,523 for the gasoline sedan used as its counterpart, per Business Wire.

  • For an electric SUV, the annual charging estimate was $616, versus $3,487 for the comparable gasoline model.

  • The study found that while gas-powered vehicles had the lowest one-year total cost, EVs generally went from being more expensive after one year to cheaper than their gasoline counterparts after five years.

Bottom line: VinFast is using its long warranty coverage and CPO program to carve out another entry point into the Canadian market, giving dealers an opportunity to capture growing EV demand while offering used buyers additional assurances around battery health, vehicle condition, and long-term ownership costs.
