Slate Auto revealed today (June 24) that its electric truck, officially named The Blank Slate, will hit the market at a starting price of $24,950.
This is higher than its initial $20,000 projection before the end of the Clean Vehicle Credit in September 2025.
What we know: The customizable two-door truck of the EV startup, whose investors include Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is taking reservations for orders with a $300 deposit.
The first deliveries are expected in late 2026.
Customers will pay for different features to add to the vehicle that has no infotainment system in the base model or power windows. Full color wraps start at $499.99.
In customizing, buyers can pick the two-door truck or 5-seat SUV option, which comes in a squareback model for $29,950, or a fastback model for $31,950, according to the Slate’s website.
The EV will have an estimated range of 205 miles.
Where it fits in the market: At approximately $25,000 it is among the lowest price options hitting the market.
Edmunds noted only 4.7% of new vehicles sold in 2025 were $25,000 or less.
Only 23.4% of compact trucks sold in 2025 were between $25,000 and $30,000.
Also worth noting, the price of the Blank Slate is $5,000 less than the promised $30,000 Ford EV truck expected to debut in 2027.
Slate CEO Peter Faricy told CNBC that every vehicle produced will be gross margin positive, and the company will be cash-flow positive by 2027.
What they’re saying: "Slate is making a $25,000 bet that drivers still want something simple,” said Edmunds Director of Insights Ivan Drury. “Our data show the market quietly walked away from that price years ago, so this is a real test of how much affordability still matters to today's buyers. The base pricing is the headline, but the entry-level price point is paired with an unconventional build and a powertrain that is proven harder to sell today. The real question is whether the enticing price alone can overcome that.”

Reaction to hitting the market: Analysis of comments from CDG’s previous news segment on the Slate truck shows a genuine demand for simple “no frills” vehicles.
The opposition was mainly about value at the price point over $25,000, with its questions about repairability and range.
A ready and vocal market was ready if the price held in the mid-$20Ks.
CNBC reported Slate received more than 180,000 reservations before opening preorders this week.
