Driving the news: Porsche introduced its Mission S on Thursday (Oct. 15) in Queens, New York, as its new mid-engine sports car.
The details: Dr. Michael Leiters, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, said the Mission S hints at the direction of Porsche in the coming years.
“The Mission S represents a mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the 911 – not as a one-off hypercar, but as a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering,” Leiters said.

The Mission S features the mid-engine design and Porsche’s iconic torpedo fenders similar to the 911.
Bottom line: No announcement was made on the price or production timeline in the release. The introduction of the Mission S shows the company’s commitment to its “Sportwagenschmiede '35’ strategy introduced in July, with “new sports cars, greater exclusivity and stronger profitability.”
“The term 'Sportwagenschmiede' was deliberately chosen because it captures everything Porsche aims to stand for in the future: our aspiration to offer the sportiest vehicles in every segment, but also craftsmanship, down-to-earth thinking and entrepreneurial, business-focused action,” Leiters said in July. “Our goal is to be attractive to all stakeholders: our customers, our workforce, our partners and our investors.”
