Nissan has rolled out its long-term strategic vision, part of its broader recovery plan, to deliver smarter, safer, more intuitive vehicles for everyday life, anchored by a more streamlined product lineup.

The details: A core part of the vision, dubbed “Mobility Intelligence,” centers on AI-driven vehicles, with plans to integrate advanced driver assistance and intelligent in-car systems across 90% of Nissan’s global lineup over the long term.

  • Nissan plans to roll out its AI Drive technology across 90% of its lineup over time to enhance safety, improve the customer experience, and deliver added value for drivers.

  • The first model to feature the new drive technology will be the new Nissan Elgrand, scheduled to launch in summer 2026.

  • The vision also calls for expanded offerings built around Nissan’s hybrid technology (particularly its e-Power system) alongside plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles.

What they’re saying: “Our vision defines where Nissan is headed, with customer experience as our guiding priority,” said Ivan Espinosa, president and CEO of Nissan, per a Nissan press statement. “By advancing mobility intelligence, we will deliver intuitive, advanced, and reliable products and technologies that offer outstanding value and enrich how mobility is experienced."

Why it matters: Nissan’s strategy signals a more focused product approach, leaning into technologies that align with consumer demand and offerings that can help both the company and its retailers grow profitability.

Between the lines: A major part of the strategy is streamlining the lineup by cutting models from 56 to 45, while organizing around four categories to improve production efficiency, sharpen product positioning, and support dealer inventory management.

  • The four categories are: “Heartbeat,” models embodying Nissan’s identity, emotion, and innovation; “Core,” models driving global scale and stability; “Growth,” models targeting emerging demand; and “Partner,” models extending reach through strategic collaboration.

  • Nissan has already identified category-defining models, including the new Rogue and X-Trail Hybrid e-POWER as global Core products; Xterra as a Heartbeat model for the U.S. and Canada; Juke EV as a Core model for Europe; and Skyline as a Heartbeat model for Japan.

Zooming in: The U.S. and Canada will play a pivotal role in Nissan’s vision, with a goal of reaching 1 million combined units in the markets by fiscal year 2030.

  • The strategy is centered on leading in key large-vehicle segments while maintaining a strong local manufacturing footprint.

  • Key products include the next-generation Rogue Hybrid e-POWER, all-new V6 and V6-hybrid body-on-frame models led by the returning Xterra, and continued V6 options in mid- and full-size SUVs.

  • EV investments will remain measured, while Infiniti is set to add three new models by FY2028, including the all-new 2027 QX65 SUV, a new premium sports sedan, and a luxury hybrid compact SUV.

What they’re saying: "Across the Americas, our focus on execution is making the region a key contributor to Nissan's turnaround, driven by both revenue growth and disciplined cost reduction,” said Christian Meunier, chairman, Nissan Americas, per the press release. “We delivered significant year-over-year increases in U.S. retail share, making Nissan the fastest-growing mainstream brand since August 2025.”

Bottom line: Nissan is betting that a leaner lineup, more hybrids, and smarter vehicle tech can help sharpen its recovery and strengthen its position in North America. For dealers, that could mean a simpler inventory mix, more competitive products in high-demand segments, and a clearer path to selling what shoppers are already gravitating toward.
