Driving the news: Morrie’s Auto Group acquired three family-owned Nebraska dealerships from fourth-generation owners Carey (Beardmore) Hamilton and her husband, Brian Hamilton.
For context: Beardmore Subaru, Beardmore Hyundai, and Beardmore Chevrolet are all in Bellevue, Nebraska, about 10 miles south of Omaha.
The stores were renamed Bellevue Subaru, Morrie’s Bellevue Hyundai, and Morrie’s Bellevue Chevrolet.
Morrie’s Auto, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, also owns dealerships in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
What they’re saying: Carey Hamilton became a Chevrolet dealer at age 29, according to a story her daughter Hilary Hamilton wrote in The Bellevue Times. She said she recognized early that her mother’s feat was rare.
“Throughout the years, I would have many friends and women in the community tell me that my mother had been a great inspiration to them in the decisions and goals that they would later make in their own lives,” Hilary Hamilton wrote.
Bottom line: Sometimes, the neatest details of a deal come with a family’s storied history of building the business over generations. Especially in this era, where succession decisions continue to fuel consolidation.
