Jeep is looking to boost Grand Cherokee sales with the addition of an all-new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine as the brand continues its push to simplify its lineup and regain traction in the market.

The details: The new engine headlines a series of updates for the 2026 model year of the midsize SUV, which saw a modest 1% sales uptick in the third quarter compared to Q3 2024 but a 4% year-to-date decline in the same period.

  • The Hurricane 4 Turbo delivers 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, with an estimated 529-mile driving range on a single tank and a towing capacity of 6,200 pounds.

  • New features include a 12.3-inch infotainment unit with an optional 10.25-inch passenger display, Active Driving Assist technology, and a premium McIntosh 19-speaker sound system.

  • Exterior enhancements include a redesigned seven-slot grille, updated headlight design, reworked rear and lower fascia, and new trim finishes.

What they’re saying: “The 2026 Grand Cherokee scales to every customer’s needs, offering a blend of surprising power from the all-new Hurricane turbo-four engine, true 4x4 capability and a suite of amenities designed to tackle both every day and extraordinary adventures for customers and their crew,” said Bob Broderdorf, Jeep brand chief executive officer, per an official statement.

Why it matters: The Grand Cherokee’s updates (anchored by the new, fuel-efficient Hurricane 4 Turbo) give dealers a reinvigorated product to draw customers into the showroom with a competitive midsize SUV.

Between the lines: Jeep is continuing its simplification strategy across the lineup, extending it to the Grand Cherokee for 2026 by narrowing trims to three core models: Laredo, Limited, and Summit.

  • The Laredo Altitude now adds standard safety tech like Traffic Sign Recognition and Intersection Collision Assist.

  • Building on the Laredo’s content, the Limited trim builds on that with Silver Silk exterior accents, heated second-row seats, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, and ambient interior lighting.

  • The Summit trim includes driver and passenger massaging seats, a Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system with air suspension, and the McIntosh 19-speaker premium audio system.

Pricing for the 2026 Grand Cherokee lineup has not yet been announced, but Broderdorf has emphasized competitive pricing as a key element of his strategy to reignite Jeep’s momentum in the U.S. market.

Bottom line: For dealers, the refreshed Grand Cherokee lineup delivers stronger value propositions and higher-margin opportunities, while the simplified trims make inventory management and customer communication easier.
