Hyundai’s plans for a body-on-frame midsize pickup are coming into clearer focus as the automaker releases more details about its strategy to roll out 100 vehicles by 2030.
The details: During its 2026 CEO Investor Day, the South Korean automaker discussed the midsize pickup as part of its push into vehicle segments where it currently has limited or no presence.
Hyundai has not provided a name, specifications or potential powertrain for the midsize pickup, or confirmed whether the body-on-frame truck will be sold in the U.S.
The body-on-frame Hyundai Bolder Concept SUV unveiled at the 2026 New York International Auto Show could signal how the automaker might approach the pickup.
What they’re saying: “The company is targeting ‘white spaces’ where the brand is underrepresented today,” reads the Hyundai Motor Investor Day press release. “These segments account for roughly 29 percent of all automotive sales, highlighting significant opportunities for growth.”

Why it matters: A body-on-frame pickup could potentially open the door to new customers while expanding the automaker’s reach beyond its existing crossover and Santa Cruz buyer-base.
Between the lines: The body-on-frame announcement marks a significant shift from Hyundai’s unibody-based Santa Cruz, potentially putting the automaker in a strong position to compete against models such as the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier in the growing midsize pickup segment.
The Toyota Tacoma, which leads the U.S. midsize pickup segment, saw deliveries grow about 5% in the second quarter, while Nissan Frontier sales surged nearly 35% in Q2, according to TFL Truck.
The global midsize pickup market is projected to reach approximately $250 billion by 2033, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.8% from 2025 to 2033, according to Strategic Revenue Insights.
Bottom line: Hyundai’s body-on-frame pickup plans signal a push beyond the segments that have traditionally driven the brand’s growth, potentially giving dealers a new way to compete for truck buyers and capture incremental sales in a category where Hyundai has yet to establish a meaningful presence.
