Hyundai is making public EV charging easier with new app-based features

CDG News Alert (< 1 min. read)

Driving the news: No more fumbling with multiple apps or cards at EV charging stations… Hyundai has announced two new features for its EVs: in-app payments and plug-and-charge capability that aim to simplify the notoriously fragmented public charging experience.

The details: According to a recent press release, the MyHyundai with Bluelink app now lets drivers find and pay for charging without switching between multiple apps, while plug-and-charge promises automatic payment when connected at compatible stations.

  • So far, the features are limited to their newest models, the 2025 IONIQ 5 and the 2026 IONIQ 9, and work across Tesla Superchargers, IONNA, ChargePoint, and EVgo networks.

  • Future IONIQ and electric models will be included as well.

Why it matters: The EV charging landscape is still a messy experience for many drivers. But Hyundai's betting they can solve this pain point, though success depends entirely on execution.

What we're watching: Whether or not the app will actually work reliably in real-world conditions (something legacy automakers have consistently struggled with).
