Driving the news: Hunter Automotive Group purchased Victory Chevrolet from Brandon Gandy in a deal that closed February 17.

For context: The group said they’ll rename the dealership in the future.

  • Hunter Automotive owns three dealerships selling Hyundai, Subaru and Volvo, all on the same campus in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

  • Acquiring the Chevrolet dealership adds a brand to the portfolio while allowing the group to move into the busy Charlotte market, about 110 miles east of Hendersonville.

Looking back: Cousins Randy Hunter and Tom Hunter now run the business started by their grandfather, T.D. Hunter Jr., in 1940. David Hunter, Randy Hunter’s son, will be the general manager of the new dealership.

What they’re saying: "Charlotte is a key market for our strategic growth," David Hunter said in a release. "We are focused on expanding our successful operating model into this new area while continuing our long tradition of community involvement.”

What’s next: The Hunter family has history dating back to the 1920s in Charlotte, so they were motivated by that and the area’s significant growth potential, Randy Hunter told CDG News. He said the group plans to grow more, but for now, they’ll focus on the new store.
