The details: According to information compiled from reports by iSeeCars and other sources, among the roughly 27 models discontinued this year, 20 are classified as either premium or luxury vehicles.
Fifteen of the 27 models (about 55%) are priced higher than the average new-vehicle transaction price of $50,000, with the Porsche 718 Boxster topping the list at $141,299.
One of the lowest-priced vehicles among models ending production in 2025 is the Ford Escape (priced at $30,350).
Sixteen of the vehicles listed are SUVs or crossovers, with the Audi Q8 e-tron being the most expensive among the two segments being discontinued, with a price of $86,196.
Why it matters: Many automakers are retreating from broad “premium for premium’s sake” and unfocused EV/sedan bets that didn’t turn, instead promising much more “affordable” vehicles.

Between the lines: Amid the dominance of premium or luxury models, the list of discontinued vehicles underscores some notable shifts that likely will continue into 2026, including a shift away from certain sedans and EV strategies.
Discontinued models such as the Audi Q8 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and Nissan Ariya reflect automakers revamping their lineups due to factors such as slowing EV demand and U.S. policy changes.
The sunsetting of the Subaru Legacy and the Volvo S60 and S90 in 2025 signals automakers’ continuing shift away from sedans, as the consumer appeal of crossovers and SUVs continues to grow.
What they’re saying: “Though the Legacy is the longest-running Subaru model line, its discontinuation reflects market shifts from passenger cars to SUVs and crossovers and Subaru’s transition to electrified and fully electric vehicles,” noted Subaru.
Bottom line: As more premium, EV, and sedan nameplates exit, dealers are focusing on how to merchandise remaining inventory, planning for parts and service support on discontinued models, and positioning their used car portfolios to fill any gaps.
