Hendrick Automotive Group expanded its multi-dealership campus in the northern part of Charlotte, North Carolina, the city where the company is headquartered.

Driving the news: Hendrick Automotive, one of the country’s largest private retail groups, opened two new dealerships at its Hendrick Northlake Auto Mall.

  • Hendrick Acura Northlake opened Aug. 1 and Land Rover Northlake opened today (Sept. 1), according to a press release.

  • Both dealerships were open points awarded to the group, the company confirmed to CDG News.

  • The expansion includes Hendrick Collision Northlake, the company’s largest collision center, it said, which opened in May.

The details: Hendrick Automotive first opened the auto mall, which sits on Northlake Auto Plaza Boulevard, with three dealerships in 2012.

  • Hendrick BMW Northlake, Hendrick Lexus Northlake, and Mercedes-Benz of Northlake were the original stores there, and Audi Northlake opened in April 2014, the company said.

  • The new collision center, which has 22 manufacturer certifications and I-Car Gold Class status, is about 100,000-square-feet and has 80 repair bays.

  • Overall, the auto mall consists of more than 290,000-square-feet of dealership space on more than 93 acres.

  • It has room to keep more than 1,000 vehicles on site and has a 160 total service bays.

It’s one of the group’s largest campuses and sits about 15 minutes from its stores in Concord, North Carolina, and about 30 minutes from the group’s Charlotte dealerships.

Nuts and bolts: The collision center, open to all customers, has a range of OEM certifications, including Hyundai, KIA, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, General Motors, C8 Corvette Certified, and Lamborghini.

  • For now, at least, the campus is complete.

  • “While we are continuously exploring ways to grow and better serve our customers, there are no additional plans to share at this time,” a Hendrick Automotive Group spokesperson told CDG News. “We’re extremely proud of this latest phase of growth.”

What they’re saying: Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of his namesake group, said in a statement that the group is grateful for the role Charlotte has had in the company’s growth as it celebrates 50 years.

“Adding Acura, Land Rover and our largest collision center takes the Northlake campus to another level and expands the ways we can serve customers across the region,” Hendrick said in the release. “Investments like this are how we prepare for the next 50 years – by creating opportunities for our people and giving them the resources to take great care of customers.”

Strategic note: Hendrick Automotive said the auto mall now employs more than 540 people, including the 126 new jobs created from the three new facilities.

Expanding service capacity helps situate the group for its next 50 years.

“We’re proud of where we’ve been, and we’re equally focused on where we’re going,” the spokesperson said. “Our responsibility to our customers extends well beyond the purchase of a vehicle, and expanding our service capabilities is an important way we continue to meet their needs for years to come.”
