Driving the news: Ken Harvey of Harvey Automotive Group purchased two dealerships selling Honda and Chevrolet in Pittsburg, California, from mother-son duo Rose Winter and Christopher Clarke.
For context: Rose Winter took over running the family dealership business founded in the late 1950s after her husband, Jim Winter, died in 1996.
Winter Honda and Winter Chevrolet grew a loyal customer base and consistent sales under her leadership, according to Dealer Solutions Mergers & Acquisitions, which represented the buyer in the sale.
Harvey renamed the stores Ken Harvey’s Delta Honda and Ken Harvey’s Delta Chevrolet, DSMA’s Eric Levitt told CDG News.
The transactions add a fifth Honda dealership to the group’s portfolio as well as its first Chevrolet store.
What they’re saying: “Ken is on the national dealer council for Honda,” Levitt said. “He’s very well known and respected with the brand, and he knew this was just a great opportunity for his group…He's really, really excited about getting General Motors into their brands as well.”
Worth noting: Levitt said the transaction was completed with great respect for the legacy Winter built, to the point that Harvey invited Winter to keep her office.
“She’s been such a staple there that he basically said, ‘Listen, you come and go as you please. It's your office as long as you want…,’” Levitt said.
Bottom line: Levitt said the market remains busy and that he’s having many conversations with dealers about buy-sells.
