Ford announced Thursday that it is investing $1 billion in a new “state-of-the-art” paint shop at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville.
Driving the news: The new paint facility will replace the existing shop at the Louisville facility, with the automaker expecting to break ground before the end of the year.
The Kentucky Truck Plant is Ford’s largest and highest revenue plant, the release stated.

Additional investment in Bluegrass State: The new paint facility follows Ford’s recent expansion in Kentucky.
Ford has spent $2 billion transforming the Louisville Assembly Plant into the manufacturing center for its Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, on which the Ford Fathom, the midsize electric truck, will be produced for a 2027 launch.
Additionally, Ford invested $2 billion to convert the former battery manufacturing site in Glendale into a facility to produce battery energy storage systems.
Bottom line: Ford continues to invest in facilities in Kentucky as it transitions into production of its new EV line and works to modernize operations. Ford employs 11,500 workers in Kentucky.
