Production at Ford Motor Co.’s Dearborn Truck Plant resumed today (Sept. 29), a company spokesperson confirmed to CDG News via email.
For context: The plant shut down Thursday (Sept. 24) due to unspecified supplier issues that also affected some shifts at the manufacturer’s Kansas City Assembly Plant.
Ford increased F-150 production at its Kentucky Truck Plant to help offset the shortened and canceled shifts.
Back in Michigan, some motor work for the Dearborn plant reportedly got shifted about 20 miles southwest to the automaker’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant, where the Ford Mustang is built, according to a worker there who asked to be unnamed due to media policies.
The source said workers there were told the Dearborn plant would be shut down for a week.
“We were told they were on [an] aluminum shortage, so we were able to get some of their motors diverted to us this week, so we’re actually running more production than we normally do,” the source said.
Ford did not immediately respond to a follow-up email about the shifted work or whether an aluminum shortage caused the shutdown.
Bottom line: The Dearborn plant, located in Ford’s storied Rouge Complex, did reopen at full production, the spokesperson confirmed. That’s good news for dealers who may have faced inventory uncertainty if the shutdown had continued longer.
