Driving the news: Ford $F ( ▲ 0.59% ) is recalling over 625,000 vehicles for seat belt and backup camera issues that increase crash risk, federal regulators said Friday.

The details: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued notices for two separate safety campaigns affecting Mustangs and Super Duty trucks.

  • Recall 25V614 (332,778 vehicles): Covers 2015-2017 Ford Mustangs where water and road salt can corrode front seat belt anchor pretensioner cables. The corroded cables can break, preventing seat belts from properly restraining occupants during a crash.

  • Recall 25V686 (291,901 vehicles): Covers 2020-2022 Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty trucks where the 360-degree view camera system may not display rearview images properly in certain lighting conditions, increasing crash risk.

Big picture: Ford dominated Q3 recalls with 24 campaigns affecting 5 million vehicles, nearly 60% of all recalled units nationwide. For dealers, it's another wave of manufacturer-reimbursed work that fills bays, but also competes with higher-margin customer-pay jobs stretching into 2026.
