Driving the news: DOCS Dealership Group purchased a California Ford store from Price Family Dealerships in a deal that closed Sept. 14.

For context: Downtown Ford Sacramento, in that California city, will keep its name.

  • Price Family had owned the dealership since 2022, though the store has served the area since 1911, according to National Business Brokers (NBB), which advised the sellers on the transaction.

  • The advisory firm said the dealership ranks as the No. 10 Ford fleet dealer nationwide and the No. 2 Ford fleet dealer in California.

  • DOCS Group, which operates under Dealer Operating Control Service, Inc., is owned by the Breech family.

  • The deal bolsters DOCS Group’s West Coast footprint and marks its entry into the Sacramento market.

What they're saying: Jack Hollis, an NBB board member and former Toyota Motor North America COO, said in a statement that he has known Tom Price, chairman of Price Family Dealerships, for more than 30 years.

“In that time I've seen him lead with integrity, with loyalty, and with a deep commitment to his people and his community,” Hollis said.

Worth noting: Zach Kuzemka, CEO of NBB, and Tony Taylor, the firm’s head of business development, told CDG News that the Prices didn’t know about the Breech family’s history with Ford Motor Co. until the closing.

  • The late E. Robert "Bob" Breech Jr., who founded DOCS, was the son of Ernest R. Breech, Ford’s chairman from 1955 to 1960. Bob Breech bought, sold, or ran more than 70 dealerships across the country over his career.

  • Tom Price began his automotive career in a leadership role at Ford, then bought his first dealership in 1976 and grew it into First America Automotive, according to the group’s website.

  • He eventually merged it with Sonic Automotive in 1999, then served as Sonic's vice chairman before founding Price Family Dealerships
