Sales of late models grew on the used market, with the Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 leading the category at the start of September.

Leading off: AutoVision’s Used Vehicle Inventory Analysis, which uses AI to track VINs, showed a slight decrease in vehicles sold last month, down 2.8%.

  • Mainstream sales fell 9.1%, with premium (-1.8%) and ultra-premium faring better (-2.3%).

  • The inventory coming into the market was also down, with the top 10 models seeing a 5,000-vehicle drop from the previous month.

“Supply was down right about 11%, but demand was pretty level,” said Greg Uland, Vice President of Marketing at The Reynolds and Reynolds Company.

Newer used models moving: On the used market, the 1–to-3-year-old group saw growth in market volume and sales.

  • The 2025 Toyota Camry saw 2,100 units enter the market and almost 4,000 sold.

  • The 2-year-old Chevrolet Silverado led sales with 4,119 and had 1,653 added to the inventory.

  • Sales for the entire top 10 among late models were up month-over-month.

“People are looking at options,” Uland explained. “Do I want a brand new vehicle with less than 100 miles on it, or do I want essentially a discount on a vehicle that has 20,000 miles on it?”

F-150 leapfrogs Rogue: The 2023 Ford F-150 took over the top spot among all sales with 6,942 sold in the past month.

  • It jumped past the 2023 Nissan Rogue, which saw over 6,100 in sales.

  • Additionally, Ford F-150s led sales among 7-to-11-year-olds and 12-year-olds plus model, with combined sales of those older vehicles topping 10,000.

“There are two main factors that go into that. The first and the most probably impactful one is the F-150s being the best-selling vehicle model for decades in the U.S.,” Uland said. “Another part is affordability on a truck; I think it is even bigger of a focal point.”

Fast movers: Overall, vehicles moved 3.57 days faster than last month.

  • The quickest to turn was the 2026 Toyota Camry in 34.66 days.

  • The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 was at 37.22 days.

  • Three Tesla models, the 2022 and 2023 Model Ys and the 2023 Model 3, were all under 39 days.

Movers in price: Those same three Tesla models were among the vehicles with the most appreciation in price in the past month, with the 2022 Model Y jumping $2,910, the 2023 Model Y $2,627, and the 2023 Model 3 $2,268.

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade increased by $2,827, only behind the 2026 Porsche Macan and the 2023 Tesla Model Y.

Bottom line: Supply remains constrained in the used market, and prices are increasing in several models with demand.

“Anytime you have different movement in supply and demand, it becomes really important to pay attention to what you can get out of a vehicle, whether you’re buying it or selling it,” Uland said. “You need to have a sharp eye on what the market will bear.”

A quick word from our partner

Northside Honda made Upstart Auto Finance its first-look lender.

Why? Higher approvals across the full credit spectrum, on new and used, including strong-credit buyers.

In June 2026, Northside Honda averaged $2,580 in back-end profit per Upstart deal, with funding landing in as little as six hours.

"The dealers who take the time to understand how Upstart buys don't want to do deals any other way," said Tom Pence, GM.
