Automakers revitalize SUV lineups, electrify popular models
2025 Escalade electric SUV
With consumer preferences shifting to prioritize efficiency and affordability, automakers are releasing new products to better meet demand and maintain profits. While that means a lot of popular models are getting the electric treatment, that doesn’t mean brands are neglecting their gas-powered options either. Let’s take a look at five exciting product releases coming across four brands for the 2024 and 2025 model year.
2025 Odyssey Minivan
Honda is giving its 2025 Odyssey a fresh look with a revamped exterior, alongside two new paint options: Smoke Blue Pearl and Solar Silver Metallic. Despite these cosmetic updates and interior tech enhancements, including a 12.8-inch HD rear entertainment screen and upgraded infotainment system, the minivan will have few performance upgrades, receiving the same 3.5-liter V6 engine as its predecessor and an unremarkable 22 miles per gallon. Despite the growing popularity of plug-ins, Honda has no hybrid variant planned for the new Odyssey.
2025 Escalade electric SUV
Cadillac is gearing up the 2025 Escalade SUV with an electrified makeover ahead of the Escalade IQ’s debut later this year. This eco-friendly iteration boasts a redesign starting with a new front grille featuring vertically positioned headlights and an illuminated Cadillac badge. Inside, the cabin relieves a massive 55-inch diagonal display split into two, infotainment-packed screens spanning almost the entire length of the front windshield. Cadillac plans to reveal pricing closer to launch, but the expanded tech suite and luxurious amenities means buyers can expect a hefty price tag.
2026 Passport TrailSport SUV
Honda has unveiled a glimpse of the 2026 Passport TrailSport, slated to hit the market early next year with promises of better off-road capabilities than its predecessor. While details on the redesigned 2026 Passport are still limited, Honda is hoping the rugged appeal of its upcoming two-row SUV will position the TrailSport variant as a serious competitor to other outdoorsy utilities-focused models.
Hyundai Three-row electric SUV
Hyundai has officially announced the debut of its first three-row electric SUV in the United States, set to make its inaugural appearance later this year alongside an upgraded IONIQ 5. The upcoming three-row electric SUV, built on the same E-GMP platform as Hyundai’s other EVs, promises over 300 miles of range and rapid charging under 20 minutes. The automaker has yet to reveal a name for the model, although reports suggest it may place it in the IONIQ lineup.
2025 Equinox electric SUV
Chevy is positioning its upcoming 2025 Equinox EV as America's most affordable electric vehicle offering over 315 miles of range. Scheduled for release next year, the revised model will feature some performance enhancements, with FWD models boosted to 220 hp and AWD variants up to 300 hp. Pricing starts at $34,995 for the 1LT FWD variant, available to order later this year, but goes up to $46,795 based on trim level. However, with the inclusion of a $7,500 EV tax credit, the 1LT FWD could cost as little as $27,500, which would make it one of the most accessible electric SUVs on the market.
