Waymo crosses new milestone with 10 million robotaxi rides

Driving the news: Waymo has hit 10 million robotaxi trips, doubling its share in just five months as the Alphabet-owned company ramps up its autonomous services.
For context: These are all paid rides across Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Phoenix, with Waymo now delivering over 250,000 trips per week.
Why it matters: The numbers show people are actually integrating robotaxis into their daily lives rather than just trying them as novelties. And although Waymo isn't profitable yet, co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana says they're "proving out that it can be a profitable business" with a clear path forward.
What we're watching: Tesla's about to shake things up with its own robotaxi launch planned for Austin next month. CEO Elon Musk says they'll start with 10 vehicles and rapidly scale to thousands if things go smoothly, then expand to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
