Driving the news: Rummy Bhullar, of Grand Motorcars Group, purchased a Hyundai dealership in Georgia from Shottenkirk Automotive Group. The deal closed April 16.
For context: Shottenkirk Hyundai of Canton, in that Georgia city, sits about 45 miles north of Atlanta.
The store was renamed Grand Hyundai of Canton.
Bhullar also owns an Infiniti dealership in Macon, Georgia, along with four used car dealerships sprinkled around the state.
Worth noting: Looking to grow the franchised portion of his portfolio, Bhullar contacted advisor Andy Gill, of Gill Automotive, which ended up representing the sellers in the transaction.
When Bhullar reached out, he said he was hoping to buy a Hyundai dealership in the Atlanta area, Gill told CDG News.
Gill told him that could be tough, but Bhullar already had a place in mind.
What they’re saying: Bhullar identified the Canton location as desirable, and asked Gill to reach out to Greg Shottenkirk on his behalf, saying, “I’ll buy his, if he’ll sell it.”
“It wasn’t for sale,” Gill said. “But here we are; he owns it now.”
Bottom line: Gill, who was a car dealer for 25 years, is now in his 11th year as an advisor. He said it’s the group’s busiest year so far, and that they expect to have closed 12 deals by July 1, including two upcoming in May.
