Driving the news: Matthew Nunlist, president of CarHeroes, purchased a Ford dealership from Mitch Walters and Brandon Walters of Friendship Automotive in a deal that closed April 27.

For context: Nunlist is an independent dealer out of Tampa, Florida.

  • Friendship Ford of Lenoir, in North Carolina, is Nunlist’s first franchised dealership.

  • He renamed the store CarHeroes Ford of Lenoir. It’s about 80 miles northwest of Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • Mike Funk and Robert Schlicht of Dealer Solutions Mergers & Acquisitions (DSMA) represented the buyer. The Tim Lamb Group represented the seller.

What they’re saying: Funk told CDG News that though buying a first new-car dealership is a major milestone, he thinks it is just the beginning for the group.

"I've worked with a lot of buyers over the years, and what stood out about Matthew was his persistence,” Funk said. “There were plenty of opportunities for this deal to get sidetracked, but he stayed engaged, asked good questions, and kept moving forward.”
