Mercedes-Benz of Collierville
Driving the news: The Higginbotham family has sold Mercedes-Benz of Jackson and Mercedes-Benz of Collierville to Lithia Motors $LAD ( ▲ 0.05% ) in a deal that closed on June 2.
For context: After building successful operations over two decades, the family made what dealer principal Trudy Higginbotham Moody called "the difficult decision to sell," according to transaction advisor The Presidio Group.
Dennis Higginbotham first built a dealership empire starting in 1976, and sold the entire group to Sonic Automotive in 1998. But three years later, he couldn't stay away.
The family bought Mercedes-Benz of Jackson and later added the Collierville location, which are now in Lithia's hands.

Why it matters: The timing works well for Lithia, which has been systematically expanding across the Southeast and sees Mississippi and Tennessee as strategic markets. These Mercedes stores give the group luxury anchors to complement its existing Toyota and GM operations in both states.
Bottom line: Well-capitalized dealership groups continue to seek strategic acquisitions to strengthen their presence in crucial markets.
