Driving the news: Kunes Auto Group closed three acquisitions in January, including two dealerships in Minnesota's Twin Cities and one on Chicago's North Shore, which are both new markets for the company.

The details: Kunes bought two stores from family-owned Valley Automotive Group in Apple Valley and Hastings, Minnesota, renaming them Kunes Apple Valley and Kunes Valley GMC in a deal that closed January 20.

  • Kunes also bought a Chevrolet store in Lake Bluff, Illinois, from The Exchange and renamed it Kunes Lakes Chevrolet on January 12.

  • Kunes plans on keeping the existing staff at all three locations.

What they're saying: "We've been eager to enter the Twin Cities market and strengthen our relationship with the Chicago North Shore community," said Scott Kunes, COO and managing director in a statement. "Both acquisitions align perfectly with our commitment to putting people first and building lasting relationships."

Bottom line: Kunes now operates 45 locations across the Midwest by rapidly growing its footprint by 39 stores in the last 12 years.
