Driving the news: Stephen Weikert and the Weikert family purchased two rural dealerships from Jim Cook in a deal that closed May 7.

For context: Weikert purchased Jim Cook Ford and Jim Cook Chevrolet in Elba, Alabama, about 85 miles south of Montgomery.

  • The stores were renamed Weikert Ford Elba and Weikert Chevrolet.

  • The group plans to build new facilities in the next four to five years, according to Andy Gill of Gill Automotive Group, which represented the sellers.

Worth mentioning: Gill told CDG News that Cook has owned the dealerships for about 40 years. Cook will stay on to help with the transition, according to Gill.

What they’re saying: The dealerships also are about 15 miles away from Enterprise, Alabama, where Gill said Army helicopter pilots get trained.

  • “There's a lot of growth opportunity in that area,” Gill said.

  • He also said that those stores weren’t for everyone because of the rural location, but that the Weikert family had a strong fixed ops foundation that will help them succeed.
