2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5

Driving the news: The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has reappeared on the EPA’s list of vehicles eligible for the full $7,500 EV tax credit after being mysteriously left off for months, despite being built in Georgia.

For context: Hyundai has been assembling the IONIQ 5 at its Savannah-based Metaplant since January, but buyers couldn’t claim the credit until the EPA updated its list on May 1.

The wrench: The credit only applies to buyers under federal income limits. And while lease deals have always qualified via a loophole, this opens the door for cash and loan customers too.

Why it matters: With the credit factored in, the IONIQ 5 now starts around $36,575—making it one of the most competitively-priced, U.S.-built EVs available.
