Ford hit with new recall over faulty engine valves

Another recall is plaguing Ford. This time, just over 90,000 vehicles are affected.

Impacted vehicles include the 2021-2022 Bronco, F-150, Edge, Explorer, Lincoln Nautilus, and Lincoln Aviator models equipped with either a 2.7L or 3.0L Nano EcoBoost engine, according to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The details: The recall covers faulty engine intake valves that may break while driving, which could result in engine failure and a loss of drive power. So far, this issue has not caused any accidents or injuries.

Zooming in: Ford found that engine intake valve failures were caused by valves that were too hard, brittle, and prone to cracking due to the supplier's grinding processes not meeting control specs. To fix this, Ford switched the intake valve material for all vehicles made after October 31, 2021.

The fix? Replacing the entire engine. Ford says dealers will check each vehicle's engine cycles. If the count is too low, they’ll run the engine at high RPMs as part of a test. Vehicles that don't pass will get a whole new engine.
