Ford and GM to donate $1M, vehicles for Trump inauguration
Neither company has said which models will be used for the January ceremony. (2 min. read)
Ford and General Motors plan to contribute $1 million each to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in January along with vehicles.
Driving the news: Both companies donated the same amounts in 2021 for President Biden’s inauguration, although neither has said which vehicles they may provide.
Other companies reportedly supporting the Trump inauguration committee include Amazon, OpenAI, Meta and Uber.
Looking back: Trump previously said his favorite vehicle was a Cadillac in response to an audience question during a campaign event in September.
“My father was a great guy, I learned so much from him, and he loved Cadillac. His biggest luxury in life was to get a brand new, dark-blue Cadillac every two years. My father liked Cadillacs, so that’s good enough for me.”
The President-elect’s comments may shed light on what model of vehicle General Motors may provide for the Jan. celebration.
Looking ahead: Another Detroit automaker, Stellantis, has yet to announce whether it will also contribute to the inauguration.
Car manufacturers have expressed concern over Trump’s plan to impose tariffs and nix electric vehicle tax credits.
A list of recommendations for auto policy from the incoming administration’s transition team was reported last week, which included sweeping changes to EV infrastructure planning.
However, automaker executives, such as Ford chief Jim Farley, have expressed optimism that the President-elect will be open to feedback from the industry.
