Driving the news: Brandon Steven Motors purchased 12 stores from Kody Holdings, owned by Tom Kody, in a transaction valued at nearly $500 million.
The deal closed April 15 and included a mix of real estate and assumption of some property leases, according to CBRE, a commercial real estate and investment firm, which represented the sellers.
Kody operates the dealerships under the Southern Maryland Auto Group name.
The Maryland stores earned about $875 million in revenue in 2025, and Brandon Steven Motors produced about $1.44 billion in revenue last year, according to CBRE.
Now, the combined group is projected to exceed $2.5 billion in annual revenue.
For context: The dealerships, a mix of import and domestic stores, are located in the Maryland cities of Upper Marlboro, Waldorf, Prince Frederick, La Plata, Lexington Park, and Leonardtown.
Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram were the brands sold.
Kody still owns stores selling Toyota and Honda in Virginia.
Brandon Steven Motors now owns more than 30 dealerships in Kansas, California and Maryland.
What they’re saying: James Mitchell, executive vice president of CBRE, said in a release that the portfolio represents one of the most comprehensive auto retail networks in southern Maryland.
“Its concentration of key brands and geographic coverage created a rare opportunity for a buyer seeking immediate scale within the Baltimore-Washington, D.C.-Richmond corridor,” Mitchell said.
